Transparent Polymer Laser Marking Technology Makes Major Progress to Meet Optical Component Demands

Laser marking on transparent polymer substrates has long been a worldwide technical difficulty. Common transparent resins such as PP, PC, PET and TPU have weak absorption capacity for near-infrared fiber laser energy. Early additive solutions either cause obvious haze and loss of light transmittance or produce blurred, low-contrast marks, limiting the application of laser marking on optical parts, transparent packaging and transparent electronic structural components. Recent technological breakthroughs in laser marking absorbers achieve stable Black-on-Transparent marking while preserving the original transparency of base materials.
The newly developed transparent-grade laser marking masterbatch adopts surface-modified nano inorganic absorbers. The particles realize efficient photothermal conversion under laser irradiation without causing severe light scattering inside polymers. Reasonable control of additive dosage avoids haze increase and yellowing problems. After molding, the transparent workpiece can form clear black texts, QR codes and patterns under standard fiber laser parameters, and the marking area will not produce obvious surface pits or cracks.
This technological progress unlocks multiple emerging application scenarios. Transparent logistics anti-counterfeiting packaging, consumer electronics transparent decorative parts, optical instrument casings and transparent medical pipelines can adopt ink-free laser marking for traceability and anti-counterfeiting. Before this technology matured, most transparent plastic products could only rely on adhesive labels, which are easy to fall off and cannot meet long-term use requirements. Industry researchers continue to optimize formulations, striving to realize colorful marking on transparent substrates. Continuous progress in transparent laser marking materials will further expand the application boundary of laser processing technology in advanced manufacturing sectors.
